Your Inner Sanctuary

There are some times when you just have a rough day and you face certain situations that you wish you could change by will power alone, but you can not. In those moments, you must just accept that emotional frustration and find your center so that you'll be able to face the situation again.

I've got an image that brings me peace (I've got a few actually) and looking at it helps me just take a deep breath and get control of things. What do you do when you feel a little overwhelmed by something that is out of your control?

Crank the Metallica, of course.

Believe it or not, it works.

Go home, pour myself a glass of wine (or two), snuggle up on the couch, and watch a movie.

I've tried that swearing thing. It doesn't work for me. :(

Throwing things, however, seems to. Sadly, phones get expensive after awhile.

In high school I had quite a few issues dealing with emotion... my mom would wait until I was just in a terrible mood. Then she'd give me a carton of eggs and tell me to go outside and throw them at the trash can. There is something satisfying about hearing the crunch and watching the yolk drip.... :) I recall one time I had a serious bout of road rage and by the time I got home I was seeing red. I went into the bathroom tore the plastic lid off the plastic shelves and beat it against the wall saying just about every swear word I could think of... That felt pretty good too!

For best results, I leave the room and snarl and curse until I get over it.

If I am just destressing, I have an imaginary place I go sit in. Very relaxing. It's a thing I picked up a couple decades ago, where you 'visualise your inner landscape,' and I've never lost my fondness for that place, lol.
