If not a crazy writer, how bout a crazy reader?
I stopped by the Screaming Pages today and saw she had a post about 52 books in 52 weeks, and a link to a library that has the details of their local program.
Hmmm, 52 books in 52 weeks... so, do you just have to read one a week or could you read like 5 at a time and be done early? If you read two in one week, does one get to count for the following week?
Let's see, we are in week 3 of the new year and so far I've read:
1. Dark Celebration by Christine Feehan
2. Myrren's Gift by Fiona McIntosh
3. Blood & Memory by Fiona McIntosh
4. Bridge of Souls by Fiona McIntosh
5. First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman
Actually, anything that supports reading is a good thing to me. I doubt I'd be so bold as to actually sign up anywhere and pledge to read a book a week for the year... especially since I'll probably surpass that figure before the year is even half-way over; but, it's an interesting venture and kudos to all of you making that pledge. May I recommend that you pick out at least a dozen novels by debut authors that have released their first in-print novel within the last year or two - like Jackie Kessler or Tawny Taylor or any of the other new authors who have recently found their novels in bookstores around the nation.

Do they have a group that reads 52 newspapers in 52 weeks.
If they do count me in..
I think a lot of people would be able to meet that challenge! I bet a lot of people would be able to meet reading a newspaper each week... but 52 different newspapers... that one might be a little tougher for folks. I'm not a newspaper reader, unless you count online news sites as a newspaper.
If I can find books by debut authors I may try it out. I don't always know when someone's a new author unless it's spelled out somewhereo n the cover.
Lately I've been reading books by "new to me" authors - people who've been around for a while but who I hadn't heard of before. This explains the 11 book order of Christopher Moore's books that I purchased last week and am eagerly awaiting delivery on ;)
And don't forget to buy independent! I just ripped out another article from Publishers Weekly that was full of stats about why it's important to buy from local businesses.
She, keep an eye on my blog, which I'm fairly certain you do anyway. I am often talking about debuts, or just stuff that might be lost in the midlist.
Which reminds me...
Admirable reading aspirations to be sure . . . If this were MySpace I'd give you KUDOS.
Hey.. Thanks for the comment you left in my blog. Being able to read a book a week is fun, only I can't do that because the library isn't really well stocked and books here are quite expensive.
good idea. am a attempt it.
I post a book review a week on my blog so I'm to busy to read anymore at the moment. :)
nuttz... there are a LOT of really good book trading sites, you know! No need to depend on a poorly stocked library.
I enjooyed reading this
